Box Canyon Hydroelectric Project is located on the Sacramento River near the town of Mt. Shasta. The plant receives a controlled water-flow from the Lake Siskiyou Reservoir. The dam and intake of the project are owned and maintained by the County. Since going on-line for energy production in 1986, the project's two generators have provided steady service. All output from the project is sold to Pacific Power and Light under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement, providing a certainty of favorable market rates.
